How to improve children’s listening ability?

Enhancing children’s listening ability

In today’s world we have many factors that contribute to the reduction of listening ability of children. Some of the distractions of this phenomenon are cell phones, Video games and television. These factors demand attention to be paid to them rather and results in losing the listening ability. While focusing many things at once, we are hampering the listening ability.
From the study conducted by National Institute of Mental Health, what we can infer is that long exposure to video games and television will result in brain developing scan and shift focus. It might be in the expense of those that need more attention.
There are sounds and distraction a lot that children needn’t hear. This can cause the depreciation of listening span. Hopefully there are some techniques that can be done to improve the listening ability. They are as following:

1.      What you can do is to limit the exposure to television and video games. Although not inherently bad, over exposure can lead to serious attention depreciation problem. Television requires passive viewing and video games does not inculcate any reasoning in the child. In order to improve the listening skill of the child, restrict the TV viewing time to two hours a day.
2.      Talking to your child on the basis of household activities will help them to improve their listening skill by intently listening to what you speak. You can impart them knowledge on what the world is and how life should be lived. You should give reply to the questions they have on any of the matter you take.
3.      Children model their parents on modifying their listening skills. So you should listen attentively to anyone while talking. You shouldn’t just act dismissively. When your child is speaking with you, listen to him, rather than doing anything else.
4.      Starting a conversation with your child will also help to improve his listening ability. You can even start a dialogue on some topics he is interested in. make him speak and then listen while you speak.
5.      Another method to inculcate attention span is by reading to your child. After the completion of one chapter, you can talk to him about it and ask some questions. When he knows you will ask him questions, he will certainly listen well. You can also ask him what he might think will happen next in the story.
